Budget
Where our money comes from
Our funding comes mainly from state General Funds provided (or "appropriated") to us by the state Legislature. Our state law RCW 43.113 allows us to raise money from private donations and other sources. More on Donations
Like all of the ethnic agencies in state government, we are small. We have two full-time staff and nine commissioners on our volunteer board. The only compensation our commissioners receive is repayment for travel expenses for Commission meetings or other official travel.
We operate on the state Fiscal Year, which begins on July 1 and ends on June 30. Our state budget is "appropriated" once every two years, because our state operates on a "biennial," or two-year budget cycle.
Where our money goes
Here is a pie graph that shows the spending breakdown for our state General Funds in Fiscal Year 2007. Fiscal Year 2007 started on July 1, 2006 and ended June 30, 2007.
