State law allows us to raise money
The state law (RCW 43.113) that created the Commission gives us authority to raise money from various sources. The other ethnic commissions in state government also can and must raise money.
We must raise money
Our state budget narrowly supports our two staff, office space, limited travel, and basic needs such as phones, heat, lights, and janitorial help. If we want to do an event, research a policy topic, commission a study, or create and print a report, we usually must raise money to do it.

Our donors enjoy unique opportunities to build relationships with opinion leaders, advocates, and active individuals in the Black community. Our events and projects emphasize self-empowerment, civic involvement, and healthy, productive lifestyles. We eagerly recognize and acknowlege our donors for their generosity.
