Biography

Executive Director

Rosalund Jenkins

Rosalund Jenkins was appointed Executive Director of the Washington State Commission on African American Affairs by Gov. Christine Gregoire in June 2005.  Prior to joining the Commission, Rosalund served as Marketing Director for the Employment Security Department where she earned multiple Governor’s Quality Awards and the Governor’s Distinguished Management Leadership Award. 

 

Before that, she served as a special assistant to governors Booth Gardner and Mike Lowry, charged with writing and publishing budget and policy summaries.  Earlier in her state career, she was a public information officer for the Washington State House of Representatives, Democratic Caucus, covering transportation, local government, and social and health issues. 

 

Over the course of her career, she has been honored by the National Governors Association, the National Conference of State Legislatures, the federal Department of Labor, the National Association of State Workforce Agencies, the Washington Information Council, and the PODi digital printing industry association.

 

Her first job was as a radio announcer for a soul radio station. She holds a master’s in public administration from The Evergreen State College in Olympia, a bachelor’s in broadcast media from Western Washington University, and two post-graduate certificates from the University of Washington, one in web technology and another in integrated marketing communications.
