Donations support huge turnout at 2007 Legislative Day
Record Turnout
More than 2,000 people attended African American Legislative Day 2007. Donated money paid for a multi-media youth program, motorcoach charters, event planning services, printing, copying, food, and many other needs.
The multi-media youth program included interactive civics, health, and education content. Participating middle- and high-school students discussed policy issues and expressed their views via electronic voting technology. Olympia's largest-ever "Youth Voice" march and rally followed.
Sponsors Get Visibility
In addition to online visibility, the generous sponsors below were acknowledged during our huge rally on the Capitol Steps, during our youth program at the Washington Center for the Performing Arts, and in all printed materials distributed to 2,000 participants.
2007 Session outcomes included substantial new funding to help students pass the WASL, increased health care coverage for children, funding to study and remedy racial disparities in child welfare, new funding for Linked Deposit loans to minority businesses, and capital budget funding for various projects in the Black community. These and other successful measures were supported by various groups and individuals participating in African American Legislative Day 2007.
