Rep. John Lovick praises huge investments in education

April 27, 2007

OLYMPIA – The new state budget puts more money into education, with $880 million to build new schools and $1.7 billion to improve the quality of education in the classroom.

“Every child deserves a chance,” said Speaker Pro Tem John Lovick (D-Mill Creek). “It’s our duty to make sure each student – rich or poor, black or white, urban or rural -- gets the opportunity to learn and succeed. As a father, grandfather and volunteer mentor in my local school, I’m proud that the budgets we passed help achieve that noble goal.”

The $1.7 billion in new funding for public schools includes:

  • $13.7 million for the Everett School District;
  • $6.1 million for the Lake Stevens School District;
  • $10.2 million for the Marysville School District; and
  • $7.4 million for the Snohomish School District.
